The General Data Protection Regulation replaced the Data Protection Act 1998 and became enforceable in the European Economic Area (EEA) on May 25, 2018.

Does GDPR apply to my club?Back to Top
Yes, it can; if you have a member or guest who resides in the EEA, then GDPR applies to your club.

Has the membership application been updated to reflect GDPR?Back to Top
Yes; it is available by searching “membership application” at www.toastmasters.org.

What changes have taken place because of GDPR?Back to Top
Even if you are not in the EEA, you will now have the option to opt out of Toastmasters International marketing communications via mail, email or phone, simply by changing the privacy and consents settings in your profile. Also, you will have the option to remove your name from public reports concerning your educational achievements.

Can I change a selection once it’s been made?Back to Top
Yes, you can change most selections at any time. The only selection that can’t be changed is the request to delete your account. Once your information is deleted, it can never be retrieved. To be included back into the system, you will need to start your Toastmasters journey over again. So please, make ‘delete account’ requests with caution.

How will GDPR impact club and district rosters?Back to Top
Your information should still be available on club and district rosters, but the rosters will also now include your consent selections so that leaders can more accurately handle your information.

How will Pathways be affected by GDPR?Back to Top
Pathways is hosted on a separate platform, so that information will not change. That separate platform and its privacy policies are compliant with GDPR.
